《关怀方式》 (“The Way I Care”)

I first heard this song 《关怀方式》 (The Way I Care) on TV in the telemovie 《七月俏佳人》 (“Cupid Love”) .  This telemovie was shown on TV in 1995.  The lead actress was 朱茵 (Athena Chu) and and lead actor was 陈汉玮 (Chen Hanwei). The storyline was a simple but touching love story.

Initially, I thought this song was sung by Athena Chu and Chen Hanwei.  Some time later, I found out that the female singer was 蔡礼莲 (Leelian Chua).  This was the song that brought her to fame.

Each phrase ends with a word the the "an" or "ang" sound which really rhymes.  You can see there were some phrases that I put in purple, blue, green and red.  The words in each phrase are the same for the phrases in the same colour.  You will also notice that the last phrase in verse 1 is the same as the first phrase in verse 2, third phrase in verse 1 is the same as the second phrase in verse 2 and so on.  Such a unique way to write lyrics and still make sense when the phrases were sung in reverse order.

This is a simple song.  Simple in the sense that it did not have too many different lyrics yet the words were so meaningful and touching.  Of course the tune is very nice and catchy too.  I also love the fact that the guitar was used as the main musical instrument in this song.  Simply love the sound of guitar.

I think this song had become a classic.

This is what I understand from the song.  Hope the translation is correct.

Romantic Things

I was watching the TV drama "96 °C Cafe" last evening. In the show, the DJ Peifen and Lao Jingfeng (played by Tay Pin Hui) went to some place that seem like a hilltop. While she was admiring the beauty of nature and the stars, Lao Jingfeng was busy hitting the mosquitoes. That was an amusing sight. 

Later in the show, Peifen also asked the radio audiences what they think is the most romantic thing to do with their loved ones. Her idea of romantic thing is to do bungee jumping with her loved one so that they can hug each other tightly. Wow, very adventurous!

I think as long as two person in love enjoyed each other's company, anything can be romantic. This brings to mind this song, "最浪漫的事" (The Most Romantic Thing).

昨晚，我看了“ 96 °C Cafe” 这部电视剧。在剧中，DJ 佩芬和劳敬丰去了一个类似山顶的地方。当她在欣赏大自然的美和天空的星星时，劳敬丰却在忙着打蚊子。那一幕真是有趣。

之后， 佩芬在她的电台节目里问听众们最想和他们心爱的人做的最浪漫的事是什么。佩芬认为可以和心爱的人一起做绑紧跳，这样两个人就可以抱在一起。哇，她也太有冒险精神了吧！

我想只要是和心爱的人在一起做的事，任何事都可以变得很浪漫。这让我想起了一首歌，"最浪漫的事"

The lyrics can be translated as:

Simply loved this song. The lyrics were very down to earth and I think this is one of the main features in most of Zhao Yonghua's songs.

非常喜欢这首歌。歌词很生活化。赵咏华的歌就是有这个特色。

《新加坡派》(”Singapore Style“) and 《历史考试前夕》 (”The Eve of My History Examination“)

A few days ago, Ardon and I were chatting and somehow, we talked about these two songs 《新加坡派》 and 《历史考试前夕》, which roughly translate as "Singapore Style" and "The Eve of My History Examination" respectively.  These two songs were written by 梁文福 (Liang Wenfu).

《新加坡派》 was written in 1990 and Ardon was saying that 《新加坡派》 was pure genius.  Within a span of 3 minutes, it sang about the history of Singapore, from the 1960s to the 1990s.  This MV from Youtube also shows some snapshots of those things he sang in the song.




You will notice that each sentence ends with a word that has the sound "ai" behind. Really rhymes.

《历史考试前夕》was a song written in 1987 and is about the History of China.

《细水长流》 (”Friendship Runs Deep“)

This has got to be one of the most meaningful song on friendship that I have liked so far.  This song is titled 《细水长流》,  which translate as "Friendship Runs Deep".





There were many versions of this song with different singers but this is the original version. This is a song about friendship. I have got to say this again, this song still sound so good after more than 20 years.  I love the melody and lyrics.

The music and lyrics were written by 梁文福 (Liang Wenfu), from Singapore, in 1987. Liang Wenfu has got to be the person that I admired a lot in my teenage years for his talents in writing songs and books.  Being a poor student then, I had to be very careful about how I spent my money. His song albums were the only ones that I was willing to spend on.  All the songs inside the albums were very nice.
