General Election 2015

Yesterday was the polling day for Singapore's General Election 2015. Ardon and I were glad that the haze condition was not too bad then.

This was the first time Sample Counts were released to the public (around 9.30 pm to about 11.30 pm) before the actual results of the General Election were officially announced. The Sample Count was performed at the start of the counting process for each electoral division to get an early indication of the possible electoral outcome. This was released once for each electoral division.

It was meant to help prevent speculation and misinformation from unofficial sources while counting was underway, before counting was completed and the election results were announced. A Sample Count also helped election officials check against the election result for each electoral division.

The official election results of Sengkang West was the first to be announced at about 11.30 pm. All the results were announced by 2.30 am with the exception of Aljunied GRC. There was a request to recount the votes because the difference in percentages of the votes was less than 2 percent. I was too tired to wait for the results and went to sleep at about 3 am. This morning, I checked the news and realized that the result for Aljunied GRC was announced at 3.15 am. The Workers' Party won by a 1.9% margin.

We found the Sample Count was quite accurate. It was stated that it had a confidence of 95% with an error of plus or minus 4%. Based on the Sample Count, PAP was likely to win in all constituencies except Hougang SMCs and Aljunied GRCs. This tallied with the final results of the General Election. There was only a slight difference in the percentages of votes cast in favour of each parties.

Today, the haze is back again with a 3 hour PSI of more than 100. There was a burnt smell in the air :(. Looks like yesterday was indeed a good day for holding the General Election - less haze and no rain :).

Sera Singing "Let It Go"

On Saturday, we felt like having a karaoke session at home. Initially, we just sang some of the songs we had from our VCD/DVD collection. Then I had the idea of using the videos from Youtube to sing those songs that we didn't have.

Sera really loved to sing the song "Let It Go". So, Lynn helped her to find the song from Youtube. Then, Sera started to sing the song with the microphone on the sofa. She was probably too lazy to hold the microphone in her hands. LOL!

And yes, that was Andy Lau's music video VCD on the sofa. : )

《骤变》("Sudden") - Identical Twins

The final episode of《骤变》("Sudden")  got me wondering, is it so easy to swap identity for identical twins like Yixin and Weiqian in《骤变》("Sudden") who looked exactly the same?

Identical twins have the same DNA, so it is not possible to differentiate them based on current DNA testing. However, their fingerprints are not exactly the same. Fingerprints are influenced by environmental factors experienced during pregnancy. Click here to read the details.

Thank goodness, it is still possible to differentiate the identical twins based on fingerprints even if they look exactly the same!

Jigsaw Puzzle

I have finally completed this jigsaw puzzle!

This is a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle that I bought a few years ago, long before Sera was born. I just didn't get down to doing it. As time passed, I forgot about it.

Last week, as we were clearing a study table to make way for a new one for Sera, we found this in one of the shelves of the study table.

Lynn was sick last weekend, so we were stuck at home. So, I thought I should get Sera to do this jigsaw puzzle with me so that she would not be bored. She helped me sort out the pieces according to the colours and after that, she got bored and went on to play her toys and watch cartoons. So, I went on to complete this puzzle myself. It took me a few days to complete this. On certain days, I was just too tired to piece the puzzle. In the end, I took almost a week to complete this.

Now, I am wondering what to do with this puzzle...

Dolphin Door Curtain

I was quite happy when I saw that Metro was selling door curtains at their fair on the ground floor of Compass Point. Ardon and I had always wanted to get a door curtain but did not know where to get one that is nice and at affordable price. (We didn't actually search for it since it wasn't critical that we must have one.)

Initially, we (Ardon, Lynn and me) only saw those designs on display and nearly wanted to buy the door curtain with some fishes and Japanese words in it. However, while searching through their unopened door curtains on the shelves, we realized that there were many other designs that were not on display.

The salesgirl was very patient with us and showed us a few more door curtains with other designs. They also varied in terms of length and materials. Eventually we bought the door curtain with the dolphins in it.

Sera was also happy to see this new door curtain in the house. We had always liked pictures or items that had dolphins in them. They just make us feel good. Click here to see the symbolism of dolphins. We really loved how this door curtain looked when hung on the wall. :)

On a side note, I asked the salesgirl how come I had never seen these door curtains inside Metro store. She told me their company participated in this fair but they are not under Metro. That was why I had never seen this in Metro store itself. The door curtains were from EJ Home deco and that they have a web site. However, I was not able to find their web site.

Musical Box

We went to Thomson Plaza last weekend and as usual, Lynn would visit the shop "Secret Chamber".  Sera then came to me with a box and she said it was a treasure chest.  She wanted to buy it.  On second look, we realized that it was a musical box.  It was a surprise to find a musical box in a shop that sells Lego bricks and Lego related products.

All the musical boxes there were mainly pink in colour with differences in the number of drawers, the size and the pictures on the boxes.  Sera eventually chose the one with a handle (which was the first one she took out) so that she could carry it everywhere.

I thought it would be a good idea to get her this too so that she could put her earrings and other accessories in it.

Sera loved this so much that after buying it, she carried it herself and would not stop admiring the music and the ballerina dancing inside.

After we arrived home, I told her she could put her accessories inside and she was quick to do so.
