Merry Christmas!

Here's wishing everyone a Wonderful Christmas filled with joy and love!

Christmas 2014

This year, we brought the kids to City Square mall again for the carnival rides at the park. We noticed that the carousel was much smaller but there were more rides compared to last year.

River Hongbao 2014 and City Square Mall

It's been a long time since I last went to the River Hongbao.

This year, we did most of our house visiting on the first day of the Lunar New Year. So on the second day, we only needed to visit one relative's place for a lunchtime gathering. After the lunchtime gathering, we went to the River Hongbao.

Thee moment we reached the River Hongbao, we saw some rides available in the sheltered part of it. However, those rides seemed to be for smaller kids which was not suitable for bigger kids like Lynn. Anyway, Sera also wanted to ride on the bigger carousel, so we went to the open area. Before we found the carousel, we took some pictures along the way.

Surprisingly, there was no queue at the carousel ride, so the kids could start the ride almost immediately. The horses and sea horses were too high for them, so the staff helped to carry the kids up to the rides.

Next, the kids wanted to take the bumper car ride. There was a short queue there. So we waited for a short while before the kids could get on the ride.

After those rides, we just wandered around to take some pictures.

The good thing about going in the afternoon was the lighting was good for photo taking. The bad thing, of course, was the scorching heat from the sun. Sera couldn't stand the heat so she used an umbrella to cover her face even during phototaking, lol!

Later in the day, we went to City Square Mall. We were surprised to find these Chinese New Year decorations. There were pictures of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs and the outlook for each zodiac sign in the year of the horse. Sera posed with all the 12 Chinese zodiac signs. Here are just some of the photos we took of her posing with the signs.

Many shops were closed at City Square Mall on 1 Feb 2014. However, there were some books and shoes on sale on the first floor. We managed to find some items that we liked. :)

Chinese New Year 2014

We will be celebrating Chinese New Year, the beginning of the year of the horse, in another 5 days' time. We went to Chinatown to take some photos of the Chinese New Year street decorations and do some shopping.

The Chinatown street decorations consisted mainly of sculptures of horses and coins.

Below were pictures of the street decorations taken at Chinatown.

I preferred this year's street decorations at Chinatown to last year's. Perhaps it was because I have always liked images of horses :) .

Christmas Decorations and Street Lightings 2013

I really love the season of Christmas. Many shopping malls and streets are beautifully decorated and add more joy to Christmas.

Below were pictures taken in or near various shopping mall.

Christmas Wonderland at City Square Mall

We reached City Square Mall just in time to see the "snow" coming down from the second floor of the mall.

After that, we brought the kids to the park at Level 1. As usual, we took some pictures with the Christmas decorations outside City Square Mall.

There were some games and rides at the park too. Each ride cost $4. For those who have spent more than $200 in City Square Mall, they would get a complimentary ticket.

The kids enjoyed the ride at the carousel.

Our Christmas Tree

I have always liked Christmas trees since young. I still remember that my first Christmas tree was a gift from my cousin and was white in colour. Although it was just a small tree, it really made my day.

After Ardon and I got married, we bought a Christmas tree shortly after Lynn was born. The Christmas tree was bought at Cold Storage and it was 6 feet tall. It cost $69.90. The leaves looked sparse when there were few ornaments on it. Through the years, we bought more Christmas tree ornaments and it looked much better with more ornaments on it.

Subsequently, as we had more and more toys and books, we realized that it was too big for our flat. The leaves also kept falling off and the branches had started to look more brownish. It was time to change to a new Christmas tree.

So, last year, we bought a new Christmas tree from Giant Hypermart. It cost about $20. As this tree was shorter and slimmer that the previous Christmas tree, we had more than enough ornaments to go round the tree.

Last weekend, I set up the Christmas tree and the children had so much fun decorating the Christmas tree. Sera hung the ornaments at the bottom of the tree as she is younger and shorter. Lynn was responsible for hanging the ornaments on the higher part of the tree. This was how our current Christmas tree looked.

Did you notice that the star at the top of the tree changes colour every few seconds? We bought it from Perth, Australia a few years ago. Glad it is still working. :)

Mooncakes 2013

The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on 19 September this year, which is just two days later. Usually at this time of the year, there would be many hotels, restaurants and bakery shops selling their mooncakes at mooncake fairs in various shopping malls and at their own stores.

Last week, we went to Causeway Point and browsed around the atrium where the mooncake fair was located. I am always attracted by all those very fanciful and beautifully designed mooncake boxes. Hee! Hee!. Eventually, we decided to purchase 4 pieces of low sugar Lotus Paste Double Yolks mooncakes at the offer price of $38 from The Baker's Cottage. We could choose the type of boxes we wanted: four 1-piece boxes, two 2-piece boxes or one 4-piece box. I chose the two 2-piece boxes with magnetic clasps.

I liked this box because it was the right size to use for keeping small toys or other small items.

Then last Sunday, after having our dinner at a food court, I was attracted by the Hello Kitty mooncake boxes on display at Breadtalk. Sera was also fascinated by the box and went in to take a look. She was quite happy to find that there was a mirror in every box (Mini Mooncake Set and Hello Kitty Mini Mooncake boxes). Initially we thought she wanted the Hello Kitty Mini Mooncakes, so Ardon and I were quite surprised that she chose the Mini Mooncake Set. We were fine with buying another box of mooncakes since we did not have any of those flavours that were in the mini mooncake set.

Once we reached home, Sera immediately took out the mini mooncakes and used the box for her toys. I asked Sera why she chose the Mini Mooncake Set. I thought it was because she did not like the blue colour of the Hello Kitty box. She told me she liked the Mini Mooncake Set because the box was smaller.
